The Kites
by Clover Kreger, written in Hong Kong
The archangels of nethersky updraft, spiral, smoothly dive,
glory-borne on the wind-wild lift, the hill-born gusts which thrust aloft
the hollow-branched, feather-verdured lords of the incomprehensible air
And only a tiny fraction of humanity even notices they're there
The heaven-leavened conquerors and kings of enigmatic voids
Wind buffeted and buoyed, climbing and cascading; hovering; screaming, screaming
With all the wild joy of free flight embodied in their cry,
in that ragged crescendo of the archangels of nethersky
